URL Encoder / Decoder
Percent-encode text so it is safe in a URL, or decode %20-style text back to readable characters. Everything runs in your browser.
URL Encoder / Decoder
Percent-encode text for a URL or decode %20-style URLs back to readable text.
Your text is processed in your browser and is not uploaded.
How it works
- Choose Encode or Decode, then type or paste your text. The result updates as you type.
- When encoding, choose Component (for a single query value) or Full URL (keeps : / ? # & = intact). Optionally use + for spaces.
- Swap moves the result into the input and flips the mode, so you can check a round trip.
Counting rules
- Component encoding uses encodeURIComponent; Full URL uses encodeURI. Non-ASCII characters are encoded as UTF-8 (“é” becomes %C3%A9).
- The whole text is encoded as one value, so line breaks become %0A.
- Decoding leaves a plus sign alone unless “Treat + as space” is on.
- Decoding fails with a message if a % is not followed by two hex digits or the bytes are not valid UTF-8.
- Your text is processed in your browser and is not uploaded.
Worked example: “a b&c=d/é” encodes to “a%20b%26c%3Dd%2F%C3%A9” as a component, and decoding that gives “a b&c=d/é” back.
