How it works
Enter the starting (old) value and the ending (new) value.
The difference between the new and old value is divided by the old value, then converted to a percentage.
The starting value cannot be zero — percentage change divides by the starting value, and division by zero has no defined result. To apply a known percentage to a value instead, use Percentage Increase / Decrease.

percentage change = ((new − old) ÷ old) × 100
Worked example: Going from 50 to 75 is a 50% increase
More examples and edge cases
- Going from 100 to 200 is a 100% increase
- Going from 200 back to 100 is a -50% change (a decrease) — the percentage depends on which value you start from, so up and down changes are not symmetrical
- Going from 75 to 50 is a -33.333333% change (a decrease)
