Counts calendar days. By default the end day is not counted, so the same day is 0.
How it works
Enter a start and an end date. The result is the number of calendar days between them; if the end date is earlier, the count is negative. Tick the inclusive option to count both the start and end day.
- By default the end day is not counted, so the same day is 0 and Jan 1 to Jan 2 is 1.
- Inclusive counting includes both days, so the same day is 1 and Jan 1 to Jan 2 is 2.
- Calendar days only — no time of day or timezone is involved.
Method
days = end date − start date (in whole calendar days)
inclusive: one more day, in the direction of travel
Worked example: 2024-01-01 to 2024-03-01 is 60 days, or 61 days counting both the start and end day.
More examples and edge cases
- Leap years are handled: 2024-02-28 to 2024-03-01 is 2 days, but 2023-02-28 to 2023-03-01 is 1 day
- An end date before the start date gives a negative count: 2024-03-01 to 2024-01-01 is -60 days
